We are approaching mid summer and we are sitting between two eclipses. The eclipse of last week on July 12 may have left its imprint on all Cancers and the other water signs by association. Next week we will see a full Moon lunar eclipse. As we pause between these cosmic events we see other activity in and around a series of retrograding planets. A quick reminder that the planets don’t actually move backwards or forwards–it is our perception of the planet from our view on earth that creates this event. To begin with we see Mars spinning retrograde in Aquarius. Mars continues to move backwards from our perspective until it steps back into Capricorn on August 12. Mars stays in Capricorn before stationing direct in late August when it begins to move forward. We may be hindered by a lack of motivation during this time, so it may be wise to let the river carry us rather than trying to swim against the current. Since Mars represents action, aggression, and ambition we might come to feel less than inspired during this time. While the pace may be noticeably slower we can use this period as an opportunity to reconsider our path forward and perhaps redirect our focus. The other two planets to focus on are Saturn and Pluto, both of which are in Capricorn and both retrograding. Obviously all Capricorns will be impacted by this transit and other earth signs, (Taurus, Virgo) will feel the effect as well as will the three water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). As with any planet that is in retrograde motion we can expect the impact to be felt in the area of our lives where the events occur. On a wider, global level, we look to the attributes of each planet as an indicator of the action or inaction. For Saturn we expect responsibility and duty to be the defining characteristic. When retrograding, Saturn may impose restrictions on any sort of responsibility-laden task or project you may be immersed in. With this as a backdrop we might see the dilemma with the immigrant children further complicated as officials try to right this wrong. With Pluto the theme is all about transition–from good to bad or vice versa. Because there is a wide array of outcomes we have to take a broad view of the impact. Tearing down structures or duties may be what we see unfolding. As the old is wiped aside a new reinforced structure is built. With Pluto retrograde we might expect to see a slowing down of that process. Both planets are lining up to be conjunct in a few years so this may be a preview of what is to come.
